Yunnan is a regional journey rather than a single-city break. Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La bring changing landscapes and cultural settings. Lijiang's old town is UNESCO-listed. Travelers interested in unhurried town walks and mountain scenery should decide which experiences matter most before adding more stops.
How to shape the days
Our eight-day itinerary follows Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La as a directional starting point. Extra days provide breathing room for transfers and rest. Do not place a demanding mountain excursion immediately after a long arrival simply to fit the headline sights. If the available time is shorter, remove a stop rather than compress every day.
Connections & practical choices
Check the onward departure from Shangri-La before committing to a one-way route; returning to Kunming takes additional time. Discuss altitude and walking constraints before confirming mountain activities. Cableway access, weather and tickets are not guaranteed. Agree what happens if a mountain visit cannot operate, and confirm the final overnight locations before pricing.
