Xi'an adds an archaeological chapter centered on the Terracotta Warriors and the legacy of the first Qin emperor. The city wall and old-city neighborhoods offer a complementary urban experience. It is distinct from Beijing's palace story, so it works best as a deliberate historical extension rather than a hurried extra stop.
How to shape the days
As a planning suggestion, allow two full sightseeing days in addition to arrival and departure as needed: one for the archaeological site and one for the city. This is not a published package or a guaranteed duration. Museum interests, walking preferences and the actual connection can justify more time.
Connections & practical choices
Compare a Beijing or Chengdu connection using the complete hotel-to-hotel journey, not just time on the train or aircraft. Do not add Xi'an as a day excursion from distant cities. Museum reservations, guide language, hotel nights and the onward connection require a separate confirmation and quote.
