A Simple Guide to High-Speed Trains in China

China's high-speed rail network is comfortable and efficient, but major stations are large and identity checks make preparation important.

Book with passport details

The passenger name and passport number must match the travel document. Availability can change around public holidays, so preferred trains and seats should be confirmed early once the itinerary is fixed.

Arrive with time to spare

Most travelers should reach a major station 45 to 60 minutes before departure. Allow more time for unfamiliar stations, holiday crowds, children, large luggage or manual passport inspection.

Plan station-to-hotel transfers

A train journey is not only the time on board. Include hotel pickup, the correct station, arrival-hall meeting point and transfer at the destination when comparing a rail day with flying.
