How to Travel China During a 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Stay
China's 240-hour visa-free transit policy can support a stay of up to ten days, but it is a transit policy with specific nationality, route, port and permitted-area conditions.
The route must be a genuine transit
Eligible travelers must continue from mainland China to a third country or region. A simple return to the same origin generally does not meet the transit pattern. Confirmed onward transport and a valid international travel document are required.
Eligibility is not universal
The National Immigration Administration currently lists 55 eligible nationalities and designated entry ports across 24 provincial-level areas. Travelers must enter through an eligible port and remain within the permitted area for their route.
